Observing Waste Management Facility, Arcandra Goes to PPLI

Klapanunggal – Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arcandra Tahar made a working visit to the hazardous waste management facility of PT. Prasadha Pamunah Limbah Industri (PPLI), Gunung Putri, Bogor on Tuesday, February 6, 2018.

On the occasion, Deputy Minister of ESDM was accompanied by Deputy Head of SKK Migas, Sukandar, and Director General of Waste and Hazardous Waste (PSLB3) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Vivien Ratnawati and echelon officials within the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, SKK Migas and KLHK.

Arcandra Tahar said when giving a speech, want to see clearly how the hazardous waste is treated, what kind of waste can be disposed and the waste capacity that PPLI can receive. “I think seeing is believing. By looking directly at this facility, I can see that the waste generated mainly by the oil and gas industry are being managed properly,” Arcanda said during remarks (6/2). Waste from the oil and gas industry such as oil-contaminated soil or better known as COCS (Crude Oil Contaminated Soil) in Sumatra and surrounding areas, is produced in very large quantities. COCS handling solutions should be implemented immediately. An alternative solution is to build an on-site waste management facility close to the waste generator. Cooperation between ESDM and PT. PPLI is one solution that can be done by building together hazardous waste management facility.

Operational Director of PT. PPLI, Syarif Hidayat explained how the process flow of the waste receipt procedures starting from waste sampling until the waste transportation and final disposal is explained through presentation. “Procedures, landfill design, monitoring system and safety of waste transportation system also need to be explained. PPLI is ready if there will be a cooperation with ESDM to handle oil and gas industry waste with measured volume, “Syarif explained. The handling of hazardous waste especially in the industry needs serious handling with a well-planned cooperation. PT. PPLI fully supports the development of hazardous waste management facilities in other locations in Indonesia. (atp)
