UN Ensures PPLI Transformer Waste Treatment Facilities are Environmentally Friendly

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), assessed that the transformer waste treatment machine that was handed over by the United Nations to PT Prasadha Pamunah Limbah Industri (PPLI) was an environmentally friendly technology.

Rio Deswandi, National Technical Advisor of UNIDO, said that this non-thermal technology is very environmentally friendly. No waste or pollutants are generated. This technology only separates the elements in PCBs, so that the oil can be reused, he said on the sidelines of the Retrofilling PCBs event at the PT PPLI Training Center, Nambo Village, Klapanunggal, Bogor. Rio added that the transformer waste treatment technology is the first in Indonesia with a grant value of US$ 6 million. This machine with standard use can be decades of its ability. Regarding the selection of companies that are eligible to receive technology grants from the UN agency, Rio emphasized that this was a recommendation from the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF).

In the same place, the Head of Sub-Directorate for Hazardous Material Elimination, MoEF, Upik Sitti Aslia emphasized the choice to PPLI to receive the PCBs treatment technology grant due to several factors including geography, land area, readiness of human resources, compliance with regulations and others. Upik said that many candidates submitted. However, the results of the analysis and study of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, PPLI passed.

Contacted separately, PPLI’s Public Relations Manager, Arum Tri Pusposari, appreciated the MoEF and UNIDO’s trust in a waste treatment company whose shares are mostly owned by Dowa Eco-system from Japan. This technology further complements PPLI’s services as a one stop service related to hazardous waste treatment. She ensures that this non-thermal technology is environmentally friendly because it does not cause air pollution or noise. Arum added that for the public there is nothing to worry about with the presence of technology from the UNIDO. (atp)
